Cal Poly MBA Students Learn by Doing in China

mba studentsStudents and faculty from the Orfalea College of Business MBA program recently returned from a 14-day Learn by Doing tour of China that included stops in the cities of Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing.

ALUMNI IN THE NEWS

Passings: George Ramos

George Ramos (B.S., Journalism, 1969) died recently at age 63. A longtime reporter, editor and columnist at the Los Angeles Times, Ramos played a key role in a groundbreaking series on Latinos in Southern California that won the paper a Pulitzer Prize in 1984. He later joined the journalism faculty at Cal Poly.

Google Gets Punch'd and more Alumni in the News

Cal Poly’s Learn By Doing philosophy led former student Reed Morse to a full-time career with Google after his senior project "Punchd" was acquired earlier last month. The app features virtual punch cards as a way of creating a business loyalty program. Morse now works full-time at Google’s Mountain View, Calif., headquarters with a core team of five people, four of whom also graduated from Cal Poly (Xander Pollock, co-founder and designer; Niket Desai, co-founder and product lead; Matt Joanou, marketing and sales lead; and Kareem Nassar and Nat Welch, both engineers). Students SOAR Back to School

Cal Poly's orientation program, SOAR, is happening this week! Incoming freshman and transfer students are introduced to the business side of being a student. The program also offers sessions on course registration, academic advising, responsibilities as a student and more. SOAR also provides parents of incoming students with tools to help their transition.
